A romantic fairy-tale based on Antonin Dvorak´s world-known opera of the same name. The story of the fateful love of a beautiful water nymph, the Vila Rusalka, for a fickle Prince, never fails to move listeners and readers with the power of its emotions. The young author took her lead from Dvorak´s music. The fragile poetry of her narration recreates the atmosphere which so influenced Dvorak´s opera, the Art Nouveau period of late 19th century Vienna and Prague. In contrast, the young artist Michaela Cernicka´s illustrations, oil paintings created especially for this edition of Rusalka, are inspired by the landscapes of Africa, particularly Ethiopia. Cernicka´s modern approach and original imagination prove well-suited for this classic Czech fairy-tale.
